Action
(a.k.a "Blank Action" or "Rod Action")
A
term describing the portion of a fishing rod blank that flexes when
pressure is applied to the tip (i.e.. where the rod bends when there
is a heavy fish/weight pulling on your line or during a long cast).
A rod's action varies based on the taper of the rod blank and the
graphite sheets used to create it . The following terms are commonly
used to describe a rod's action, and pertain to the amount of time
it takes for a rod to return to the fully straight position after
being fully bent. (Note: the exact percentages given below vary from
manufacturer to manufacturer and should only be used as a general
guideline.)
X-Fast: Upper 20% flexes
Fast: Upper 30% flexes
Med-Fast: Upper 35% flexes
Mod-Fast: Upper 40% flexes
Moderate/Medium: Middle flex point
Slow: Flex progressive from tip to butt

Guide
Aggression
Strike (a.k.a "Reflex Strike")
A biting action caused by a fish's irritation with a bait
or lure's presence, sound, appearance, activity, etc. In this type
of strike, the fish is trying to intimidate, relocate, or injure the
bait...not eat it. With aggression strikes, the fish usually releases
the bait much quicker and may approach the bait from a different angle
than it would otherwise use when going after prey. Aggression strikes
are often seen during the spring months when baits wander across the
beds where fish are spawning/laying eggs.

Artificial
Lure (a.k.a. "Artificial Bait")
A manufactured lure or bait designed to entice a strike from a fish.
The term is generally used to describe any bait that consists entirely
of materials that are not, and were never, "alive". In many
sportfishing competitions and clubs, the use of artificial lures is
required because the use of "live bait" is considered unsporting
due to the fish's natural tendendy to hunt, bite or eat it.
