Masking Patterns for Crankbaits & Other Lures

masking patterns for painting fishing luresAdding a firetiger, dalmation, or sonic pattern to a fishing lure or crankbait can be difficult if you don't have a good masking pattern...so we've created a printable sheet of the most popular patterns. Simply download our template and print or copy it onto your masking material. Then cut out the areas marked in black. When your mask is complete, hold the mask in front of your bait and spray or brush through the holes to form your pattern.

Aluminum foil, plastic shower curtains, blank stencils, cardboard, and metal flashing all make good masking materials. We would suggest starting with aluminum foil and when you get comfortable using masks, create a re-usable set of masks using metal flashing or blank stencils.

You can purchase blank stencils in the craft section of Walmart or any large craft store, and you can print the pattern right onto the stencil and then cut it out using a box cutter or razor blade. If you want to try out the stencil route, look for a product called '8" x 10" Stencils' by a company called "Plaid". They usually come 3 to a package and you can print on the rough side of the stencil.
