Hi All,

I just ordered a few spinner kits so I can get the feel of how to make spinner lures.  I love mepps (sizes 1-4) and rooster tails, and want to learn to make my own.  Here's my first question - what knot do you recommend most when making spinners?  Thanks! Stephanie

Hi Stephanie. Welcome! When making in-line spinners like a Mepps, you're typically dealing with wire bending to hold everything in place. Here's a helpful tutorial to show you how to make the bends:

Aside from the wire bending, there is some thread fastening if you're making your own rooster tails (check out the fly tying tutorial for tips on this).

When evaluating knots for the line tie, most of the major fishing knots will work. Just make sure your line tie isn't bent, or else it could cause unnecessary wear on your line while fighting a fish.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out...
