anyone making propbaits out there?

before the plasic worm of the 50's the #1 lure made was a propbait, many companys made them with many styles, milions were made, don't ignor our bass fishing heritage make a propbait today.

I use a 3/8 dowel in cherry, or birch using the sanding method, belt sander or a grinder with sanding discs, I prefer a double taper, from center to both back & front, 4 in. with traditional red & white, with a prop at bothends

Also a slanted minnow, 3/8 dowel with the front sanded off at an angle to form a lip like a crank bait, then sanded to the back in with a complete taper, no prop.

howdy propbait
thats the way to make those double propbaits,
lets paint some in frog colors or just white base coat, black back and a red face under neath, simple but caught two bass over 9lbs.
Use good hooks and one imortant thing , twist the pitch of your blades so that spin in different directions from one another. quick history there are some old old models that were weighted to sink yep a hang up waiten to happen but my uncle made them years ago and got a twelve lb out of a farm pond. I have tinkered with a weight near ther front to get props to spin better, the closer they get to the rod the both props don't turn as well One more thing could you turn me out some 3" bodies. God bless and catch one for me. mr sputterbug

Hi, Propbait
I'm making propbaits, poppers, both flat-face, & cup-mouth. some walk the dog, musky jitterbugs, and an immitation carrottop. Some times those bass just don't quite want to break the surface. If they're slashing at your topwater, but missing it, tie on a butt-low topwater lke a carrottop, & you just might change your luck. When you fish the butt-low lure, give it enough time between pops to allow the butt to sink. Better yet, let it bob, till you can't stand it any longer. Some times they can't either!

Hi Propbait.
I just returned to Georgia from Canada. They told me that the bass wouldn't hit top water in the lake I was fishing but I had to prove it to myself.
Between 10 AM and noon I caught a 5 and 3 pound large mouth before a larger one broke off taking my 50 year old South Bend double prop which is/was about 5 inches long. Have you noticed that you can't buy these anymore?
I am now in the process of experimenting with wood, namely cedar and spruce in order to get a high floating lure.I agree with another poster that the fish see only what is under or near the water so I am starting with an elongated blue gill body cut with a jig saw. laying flat to imitate injured. I need to order screw eyes and props. Cross your fingers.
I am down to one Paw Paw Darter so need to start making something like this also.
John
